The Encuentro ibérico sobre mejoras pre y postcosecha de frutas y hortalizas, organised in collaboration with the Instituto tecnologico agroalimentario de Extremadura, took place in Badajoz (Spain) on the 6th and 7th of March 2013 as part of the RITECA project, which aims at placing Spanish and Portuguese research centres on-line in order to increase cooperation and improve scientific research.
Around 80 among technicians and researchers took part to the event, during which new technologies were presented for the improvement of pre and post-harvesting processes.
Two leading Italian companies attended the meeting: TR Turoni srl, which offers a complete range of scientific instruments for technicians and operators in the agricultural sector, and Unitec S.p.A., a company specialised in the design and manufacture of high-technology machinery and systems for the processing, selection and packaging of more than 35 types of fruit and vegetables.
During his intervention, called, Nuevas tecnologías postcosecha para mejorar la eficiencia de los procesos y valorizar la calidad de los productos hortofrutícolas, Luca Montanari (vice president of Unitec) presented the new Unitec technologies for the improvement of post-harvesting processes and quality selection, in order to improve both the profitability for producers and the value of the products.
Italy is leading in the most sophisticated techniques for the management of fruit and vegetable products, a testimony to the role fruit and vegetable production has in the country, and which is usually overlooked by national mass media.
